Scarab
I’m someone who absolutely loaths and fears almost all kinds of nasty and ugly insects, so this is the only kind of bug that I can bear to have against my skin! And in turquoise it’s actually quite beautiful!

I found this little scarab last summer in an old jewellery box back home in my old room. In the summer of 1990 us girls (me and my best friend M) went on an english language course in beautiful Cambridge for three weeks. On a day trip to London we visited the British Museum and it’s Department of Ancient Egypt in particular, as M was a huge fan of egyptology at the time. I bought the scarab from the museum gift shop to remind me of our trip, but I never wore it in a necklace like I thougt I would. It had been laying in my drawer for fifteen years until a couple of months ago it gained new life in this bracelet. The tiny turquoise and garnet beads are from New York, so the bracelet is full of fond memories.
It’s just an ordinary scarab, probably every other bead shop in the world sells tons of these. But this particular little bug helps me remember what it was like to be sixteen years old and travel abroad without the parents for the first time. Since then London has been one of my favourite cities, one that I will always return to.

Slowly, surely…
I knew it was going to be difficult: it’s already been three weeks since my last post! But I’ve already received my first comment although I was sure that no-one had even noticed my tiny blog. How fantastic to read such encouraging words, thank’s a million Tiffini! Her work is amazing, by the way. I’ve been thinking that I’d like to order an optical lens necklace from her at some point. I’ll just have to decide what sort of image I would like to have in it…
What have I been doing lately? Well, I went to see Depeche Mode live two weeks ago as their “Playing the Angel” tour reached Finland! That was a lot of fun. Although I’m not a huge fan of their latest album, the concert was great as they played a lot of their old tunes as well. My heart was about to melt when I heard the intro of for example “Shake the Desease” or “Behind the Wheel”! It was incredibly nostalgic and a great reminder of how much I love some of their songs. And how wonderful that the band is still together!
Today was great as I had the chance to spend it with my best friend who I hadn’t really seen much for a while. We visited the Alfons Mucha exhibition at Amos Anderson Museum in Helsinki! I was really excited about this exhibition as I’ve visited the absolutely fantastic Mucha Museum in Prague two times during the last five years. Now it was so wonderful to see a huge collection of his works in Finland! Oh, those colours, those decorations and the overall magic of that man’s style! I quite simply adore it.

After the exhibition we went to eat at a nice new restaurant and even did a bit of shopping afterwards. We both ended up buying some cute sandals for summer and a great Mucha-book from the museum shop. Just lovely!
