Sea & Sun

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:55 pm by Fine van Brooklyn

I picked up this large and lovely turquoise bead and the sunny citrines (aren’t they just like drops of honey?) in Barcelona. The pretty silver bead and clasp are from Buenos Aires and the amazonites from Helsinki. I think this one is for keeps…

It’s a gorgeous summer day so I don’t have the patience for a longer post but I will mention these amazing new websites: the lovely and talented Tiffini and Romina have both opened their stores and it has certainly been worth the wait! If you haven’t done so already check out the art of these girls immediately at tartx and Alma for original and beautiful jewellery, accessories and much more!

Have a great week! :)

Champagne and crystals

Posted in Uncategorized at 2:48 am by Fine van Brooklyn

Sometimes a piece of jewellery comes together almost by itself. I’ve had these beautiful Swarovski baroque style drops since the autumn when I made earrings from those same components in red, brown and turquoise combined with garnet gemstones.

Baroque in champagne.

A strand of these champagne coloured citrines came home with me from Barcelona and they were just dying to get together with the clear crystals. It’s not brain surgery to come up with earrings like this. But even if I say it myself, they are quite lovely. There’s something very festive but also a little ghostly about them…

Petals and such…

Posted in Uncategorized at 2:15 am by Fine van Brooklyn

I’ve finally made it past a certain deadline that was keeping me away from jewellery making! To get myself going again I’ve been mainly creating variations out of a few simple, familiar styles that I’ve liked in the past. I have a ton of new ideas as well but I’m lacking some vital elements like clasps at the moment so they’ll have wait a little longer. Oh, how I wish I had a proper studio space! Now there’s materials scattered around our small apartment and I keep dropping tiny beads on the floor and losing them all the time!

Inez

Inez. Finally got round to using some of the cute chips my friend brought from Argentina. I love this soft yellow aragonite and the translucent, green glass beads. The background image is yet another piece of vintage sheet music. and what a find it was! The cover features a beautiful b&w face shot of Audrey Hepburn and the song is entitled “Lumous” (“Fascination”) from the 1957 film “Love in the Afternoon”. Looks like the film has received a great rating on IMDB, so I hope to come across it at some point, too…

Petal in turquoise 2

Petal. I seem to have a thing for cloisonne beads and this particular type of necklace… I also made one in red&green. I’m thinking I should have a common name for all the necklaces of this style. The ones with cloisonne pendants I’ve been calling Petal but still I’d like to come up with a name that would represent all of them, no matter what the pendant was. Any suggestions?

Petal bracelets

Then I used the same cloisonnes for a couple of bracelets. Just easy summer jewellery…

Arabianna necklace

Finally, a necklace in one of my favourite colour combinations. I called it Arabianna, like the bracelet I made over a year ago already. My blog turned one year old some time ago and I didn’t even notice it. I can’t believe I’ve managed to keep it up as I lose interest in so many things after a short time. But I’m happy to be here still! Thanks for all of your encouraging words over the last 14 months! :)
